From 3 November to 16 November, Barbara Staffolani and Athena Alchazidu visited El Salvador and Brazil to continue work on the EPSULA project and establish new contacts for potential future cooperation. During the first week, they stayed in El Salvador, specifically at the UNICAES campus in Ilobasco and the UDB campus in Soyapango, San Salvador. The meetings held during the week facilitated progress on the final activities planned for the EPSULA project. These activities are crucial as they are connected to the dissemination of the project's results and its social impact, which aims to preserve indigenous cultures and languages and empower vulnerable communities in El Salvador and Ecuador.
A highlight of the week was the visit to the Pablo Tesak Foundation, made possible by the kind invitation of the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in El Salvador, Mrs. Ildiko Tesak. The Tesak Foundation is a prominent Salvadorian non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing children from vulnerable communities and providing them with access to education and cultural programs. Another notable moment was the meeting with Mr. Francois Roudie, EU Ambassador to El Salvador and the Central American Integration System, who welcomed a delegation of EPSULA project partners at the EU Embassy in San Salvador. In addition to the representatives from the Language Centre, the meeting included delegates from the Salvadorian EPSULA partner universities, namely UNICAES and UDB.
During the second week, Athena and Barbara visited Brazil. With the support of Mrs. Pavla Havrlíková, Czech Ambassador to Brazil, they established contacts with the universities UNAMA, UEPA, and UFSCAR. Through various meetings and visits, they laid the foundation for future cooperation. In Belém, the capital of the State of Pará, Athena and Barbara were received by Mr. Ernane Malato, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic, who provided invaluable assistance.
The stays in El Salvador and Brazil were highly productive. We would like to express our gratitude to all partners, hosts, and the Czech and EU Embassies for their help and support.
