The English Mediated Instruction Summer School caters to teachers, lecturers, and academics who deliver degree programs to multicultural audiences using English as the medium of instruction. It is ideal for those who:
This summer school is based on the need for insight into teaching and learning in a second language, given the internationalisation of higher education and the burgeoning use of English as lingua franca.
Targeting all teachers or lecturers typically with English as a second language – of programmes run in English for students with English as a second language – it consists of a series of participative seminars with activities to encourage reflective analysis on both professional practice and professional performance.
The content focuses on linguistic and paralinguistic elements of group communication, pedagogy, and the design of teaching and learning experiences. It also addresses strategies for comprehending and managing the additional layer of linguistic competence among students, encompassing differentiated teaching within a dynamic classroom setting. Anticipated outcomes for participants include the expansion of their educational toolkit, enhanced understanding of the learner experience, and an elevated contribution to the attainment of higher quality standards within the university sector.

Upon successful completion and minimum 85 % attendance, participants receive a Masaryk University Language Centre Certificate of Attendance.

To foster quality of teaching in English mediated academic programmes, the European University Institute (EUI) Max Weber Programme (MWP) in cooperation with Masaryk University Language Centre offers a summer school to academics and researchers new to teaching in English in the areas of Social or Political Sciences, History, Economy, or Law. The whole tuition for this event will be covered for participants from eligible countries.
The programme will take place in the Masaryk University Building at Komenského náměstí 2, Brno, Czech Republic.
The Masaryk University Language Centre is based in the heart of Brno and the city’s cultural and social life is literally on its doorstep. Together with The Centre for International Cooperation, The Teiresias Support Centre for Students with Special Needs and The University Computer Centre with a non-stop service, the Language Centre is housed in a Neo-Renaissance building, opened originally for the German University of Technology in 1860. Today, the building offers state-of-the-art teaching and learning resources and facilities to Masaryk University students and staff-members.
Brno is the capital of Moravia and the second largest city of the Czech Republic. It is mostly known for its modernist architecture, rapidly expanding high tech-sector, café culture and the reputation for the highest quality of life in the country. Brno is also home to six public universities. Masaryk University (www.muni.cz), the second-largest university in the Czech Republic, is the leading Higher Education institution in the region. The Masaryk University Language Centre (www.cjv.muni.cz), the largest language centre in the country, provides language and communication focused services and support to the whole university.
