Kiswahili course for absolute beginners will give you basic spoken and written knowledge of the language, as well as an insight into Swahili culture and society. Also, look forward to the skills of reading Kiswahili as it’s one of the simple languages to read.
The course will be taught in English by a native speaker, Corona Cermak.
I'm a student of medicine and I chose this language course mainly because I was thinking for a long time about a trip to Africa and I was looking for the language but also internship options. I knew that Swahili courses are only in Prague so I was incredibly surprised when I discovered a course at MU Language Centre. Mrs. Cermak went through the basics with me and I learned at least some basal language skills in general which surprisingly stayed with me long after the course. In summer 2021 I traveled to Tanzania, also thanks to the language skills but also thanks to my teacher's recommendation where to go.
To my surprise, I was actually using the language quite often, among patients, colleagues, or the family I stayed with. Everyone was happy that I'm trying to speak the language even though people in the hospital spoke fairly good English but we were mixing it. They sometimes made fun of me that they will speak only Swahili to me so I can learn more.
