Psychological noises in verbal communication

While exchanging verbal messages, either in spoken or in written form, there
is always a risk of noise affecting their meaning. When psychological noise
occurs, it increases the chance of a negative impact on communication and
interpersonal relationships. Types of psychological noise will be elaborated
and analysed, as well as the ways to prevent them.

Marlena Plavšić, PhD, teaches General, Developmental and Educational Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia. She is Head of the Department of Teacher Education and Foreign Languages, and her students are future teachers of humanities and music. Her scientific interests comprise mostly educational and developmental psychology. As a community psychologist she has been involved in various public–civil initiatives and community projects. Recently she has been active in several international initiatives that promote human rights education for psychologists.
